The short version: your photos never reach us. Afterbooth runs entirely inside your web browser. We operate no servers that receive, store or process your photographs, and we cannot see them.

Who we are

What happens to your photos

When you load photographs into Afterbooth, they are read and processed by your own device — your computer, tablet or phone. The cropping, watermarking and renaming all happen locally in your browser.

Your photographs are not uploaded to us, at any point
We do not store copies of your photographs
We have no ability to view, retrieve or recover them
When you close or reload the page, everything you loaded is discarded

Google Drive

If you choose to deliver photographs to Google Drive, Afterbooth asks your permission to connect to your own Google Drive account. Photographs are then sent directly from your device to your Drive. They do not pass through any server of ours.

We request a single permission, drive.file. This is the narrowest permission Google offers for this purpose. It allows Afterbooth to create files and folders in your Drive and to work with the files it has created. It does not allow Afterbooth to see, open or alter any other file in your Drive.

We also check the amount of free space in your Drive before uploading, so that we can warn you if an event will not fit. That figure is used on screen and nowhere else.

Limited use of Google user data

Afterbooth's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:

Google user data is used only to provide the delivery feature you have asked for
It is never transferred to anyone else, except as required by law
It is never used for advertising
It is never used to train artificial intelligence or machine learning models
No human at Afterbooth reads it

You can withdraw Afterbooth's access at any time from your Google account permissions page.

Your guests' photographs

Photographs taken at your events may contain personal data belonging to your guests. Because those photographs never reach us, you remain the data controller for them. Responsibility for guest consent, for how long the photographs are kept, and for responding to any request from a guest, rests with you and your client. We are not a processor of that data, because we never receive it.

What we do collect

Nothing about your photos or your Drive.
Standard web server logs. Our hosting provider records the usual information when a page is served — IP address, browser type, time of request — for security and reliability. These are retained for a short period and are not linked to any account.
Fonts. The page loads typefaces from Google Fonts, which means Google receives a request from your browser including your IP address. If you would rather avoid that, the tool works perfectly well with fonts blocked.

We do not use cookies for tracking, and we do not run advertising or analytics tools that profile you.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have rights of access, correction, erasure and objection over personal data we hold about you. In practice we hold very little — write to us at the address above and we will tell you exactly what, if anything, we have. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how your data is handled, we will say so prominently rather than quietly editing the page.
